BPQ Program Thursday June 6
"Material Matrix and the Paths Taken"
Sandra's lecture, "Material Matrix and the Paths Taken", is an overview of the evolution of Material Matrix and how it works, along with her colorful journey that brought her to this technique. Her many other interests have shaped who she is as a quilter, and especially how her career as an illustrator and letterer has influenced her quilting and longarm quilting. Sandra loves incorporating writing into her quilting, and "drawing" images that echo the motifs in the fabrics. In her lecture, Sandra will also introduce you to the painter Chuck Close, who inspired her Matrix technique. She will bring some quilts to show after the slide presentation, which should be inspiring and thought-provoking.
Born in Richmond, VA to deaf parents, Sandra was raised to believe she could do anything she put her mind to. Never did Sandra hear, "you can't make a living as an artist." Per Sandra, "Thank you to Frank and Charlotte Bruce for believing in her."
Barbara Olson with a program titled "Designing Outside the Lines".
